Maria Mena

"I just poured my heart out
There's bits of it on the floor
And I take what's left of it and rinse it under cold water
And call him up for more"

My Opinions and Recommendations

Maria's sound is intriguing. Her voice has a quality that makes you listen carefully. Her lyrics are original, but sometimes silly (not that that is always a bad thing). I bought her album because I liked the first single, You're the Only One, and I was pleased to learn that the rest of the songs had a similar upbeat, interesting quality. I also really like Fragile (Free) and Blame It On Me. If you listened to the first single and enjoyed it, you should get the entire album, if you weren't so keen on the first single, I would recommend trying a different artist.

Maria's sound is extremely unique, so it makes comparisons a challenge. If you like the poppy, catchy songs and lyrics, try Bonnie McKee, who is also new on the scene. If it her breathy voice that captures your attention, I would suggest you listen to Macy Gray, who has another really unique voice. Finally, try Amanda Ghost. Amanda's music is original. It may have a bit more danceability to it, but both artists are similar.
