"Swallowed up in the sound of my screaming
Cannot cease for the fear of silent nights" - from Imaginary
My Opinions and Recommendations
Evanescence is one of the most original groups to hit the video channels in recent years. The lead singer Amy Lee has such a pristine, beautiful voice. When this voice is set in front of such a loud rock band, the mix is enchanting. The album mixes between slow, quiet ballads and loud rock sessions. My favorite songs on the album are Imaginary and Hello, but I recommend listening to the album in its entirety before you make up your mind about the band.
If you are looking for a group that has a similar sound to Evanescence, this may be hard to find because they are so original. If it is the lyrics that are interesting to you, I recommend that you listen to Tori Amos, especially her Boys for Pele album. Similar to Tori, many of Evanescence's lyrics are abstract and leave a lot open to interpretation. If you really appreciate Amy's voice, I would suggest that you listen to Natalie Merchant. Natalie's voice is deeper than Amy's, but still gorgeous. Finally, if you want to rock out, you should listen to Blondie. Blondie is an old classic, but definitely worth a listen if you like Evanesence's rock sound.
