My Opinions and Recommendations

Alicia has just come out with her first CD... and it came out to fantastic reviews. She graduated as valedictorian from the Professional Performing Arts School in New York City when she was 16. That is pretty impressive! She studied Classical piano growing up. She wanted to quit when she was 11, but her mom wouldn't let her. Columbia Records signed her out of high school, but refused to release the songs she wrote. Four years later, industry legend Clive Davis, who had signed Whitney Houston, and Janis Joplin, signed her to his J Records and released her first album, Songs In A minor, which went to #1. She has a beautiful, soulful voice that can be enjoyed by young and old listeners. I know this because I played it for my mom, and she liked it too. Her CD, Songs in A Minor has many fantastic songs on it. One of my favorites is Lovin U, which I like for it's Supreme like sound. I also like her rendition of the Prince original, How Come You Don't Call Me Anymore. Don't just listen to these though, you need to hear all of Alicia's CD!

Alicia's second album, The Diary of Alicia Keys, may not be as great as the first one, but it still has some amazing songs on it. I really like the second single, If I Ain't Got You. I also like Dragon Days. Alicia has a voice that sounds just like she belongs in the Supremes. These songs really bring that out of her voice.

It is hard to find any artist who has such a touching voice as Alicia's. It reminds me of Lauryn Hill's The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill because I was so swept away by that CD as well. Lauryn's CD also blends R+B and pop the way Alicia's does. You should also check out the similarities between Alicia and Aretha Franklin's The Delta Meets Detroit album, for the actual old town sound that Alicia replicates in Lovin U. Finally, I would suggest En Vouge's Funky Divas CD, which is a classic pop/R+B album.
